My Garden Flowers

It’s summer and everyone here is enjoying the spell of decent summer weather. The British summers can be very unpredictable so we all try to make the most of it, spending as much time as we can outdoors. Not only do people  enjoy the spell 0f warm weather but so do the flowers in the garden. It’s not only the apricots that are bathing and ripening  in the warmth of the sun but also the peony, the cornflower, the roses to name just a few of the garden flowers that grow in my garden.

Apricot Season

As it’s the apricot season here in the U.K., and seeing all these ripening apricots on my little apricot patio tree, reminded me of when I was a little girl my mother used to make the most delicious ‘fruit dumplings’. Whatever fruit was in season in the garden , mostly apples and plums, she peeled and cored the apples, stoned the plums, and wrapped them in a soft dough to boil them and then sprinkle them with sugar and cinnamon. Absolutely delicious!

Sometimes she bought fruit like apricots and did the same. Labour intensive cooking but worth every minute spent making the fruit dumplings. I will have to try to find that recipe again.

Apricot Season

Apricot season is around July to end of the summer here in the U.K. and it’s definitly the apricot season here in Essex this year. It’s the first time that my little apricot patio tree, that was a birthday gift,  has produced any fruit and it looks absolutely wonderful, well worth the wait. We have had a lot of strong winds here lately and I thought we would lose them all, however they have managed to hang on. Today  I just couldn’t resist taking a few shots of the apricots with my Nikon as they bathed in the afternoon sun, they just looked so delicious and I am really looking forward to tasting my first home grown apricot.

The day of the Tendring Show was hot with a cloudless blue sky. Staying cool for both animals and the public was a problem. The show was held in a field at Lawford Park which meant lots of dust being kicked up by animals and humans and cars.  Not the most ideal conditions to take pictures, however some of the shots have been compiled into a video which can now be viewed on youtube.
