Based on the fact that surfers search for and prefer local business to cross border transactions, social networks namely have built in the local tags and stimulate users to hook media and events to geographically tagged locations.

In order to dominate the local market, you need to assess the use of the internet your neighbors make; chances are that they mostly hang out on social media, search Google and use email. This is of course an extremely simplified view but it gives an indication about where we need to build high visibility.

You also want to have an idea about how people access the net and websites; you will notice an increased use of mobile deices, which means that your content needs to be formatted and optimized  for desktops as well as for tablets and mobile phones.

Finally you may notice that surfers prefer visual content to text, which impacts on editing and publishing for multiple platforms.

Is anyone else having problems with Flickr these days. Since last week I have not been able to log in to my account. I get the run around from the system, even get a message that I am signed in but that is as far as it goes there I stay sitting on the login page which tells me to put in my password again. So its time to go to seek some help.

Flickr Help

Time to get Google to work for me and find me some answers. On the top of the list I see ‘Ask Flickr Tech Support’ ok, this looks like a good place to start, answers questions every 9 seconds – great immediate response!  Type your problem here and so I do and submit and now I get this message:

‘Experts in the Computer Category typically expect a deposit of £28 to answer questions with the specified urgency and detail. You will only pay the Expert if you are 100% satisfied with your answer – our honor system is risk free!’   AND…

‘You will have the option to view and “Accept” Experts’ answers before agreeing to pay them for their work.’

Flickr Login Problem

They want to charge me WHAT???! your kidding! no way will I pay!

Be warned, it looks legit, but on exploring other avenues of help on Google I see Flickr has its own HELP system free of charge. Just type in your problem, submit and you get an immediate reply in your mail -box ’Just a quick email from Team Flickr to let you know that we’ve successfully received your recent Help by Email query and we hope to respond shortly.’

That sounds so much better. It may take longer to get an answer but no need to pay. So who is this guy who wants to charge me for a service that Flickr offers for free?? An advert with this kind of headline is certainly very mis-leading, so be warned. Do some research first before deciding where to get the help. Most help online if not all is free it’s just knowing where to find it.

Developing my Online Newspaper

It has certainly been one of those weeks here, a full schedule and a balancing act between work and family. However developing my online newspaper, Working From Home News, still continues albeit more slowly.

Working From Home News Web Design

Web design has been a matter of making a decision about whether to use a background image or to remain with a plain colour or stay completely neutral with white. My concern is to give the paper a completely new look therefore I decided upon a background image.  With this in place it created as a base colour to build and create a site with colours, fonts and images to complement the background.

With the forthcoming YORGOO Press seminar this weekend, the week has been spent in evaluating the performance of Working From Home News, my online newspaper. This online newspaper was set up almost 2years ago to work alongside my publishing network as an aggregator for news distribution.

Over the past few years the internet environment has developed and evolved. Anyone who  has been online for a few years will notice the new trend online, its all about audio and visual communication, everything is just more media orientated than it was a few years ago. With this in mind it is time to give Working From Home a lift with a completely new look that is adapted to this evolution.

Sitting back and looking at the layout of the old publication I realise its time to adapt to the present day and change the structure of the newspaper to better serve the purpose of this online newspaper.

The layout will consist of five main categories; categories to include outside contibutors to the newspaper and categories for commercial interest. As the site will be more media orientated there will also be the photo and video galleries.
